Some Background on Shona MacKenzie BSc, MSc
Hi and welcome to a little bit about me and my passion for Skye!
Although not born on Skye, my grandfather was born here and I now live in my grandparent's croft on the Island. My ancestral line includes links to The Glendale Martyr and to the Gaelic bardess, Mairi Mor nan Oran, and I have gained great knowledge from my grandmother as well as my studies and wanderings on the Island. I can bring the history to you and help with finding ancestral sites and places associated with: Highland Clearances, Bonnie Prince Charlie, Boswell and Johnson.

This is me below The Old Man of Storr.
With a degree in Zoology, a MSc in Environmental Management, working with the RSPB recording wildlife, working with the Highland Biological Recording Group and with the International Otter Survival Fund, I have a wealth of knowledge which will enhance any walk or tour! I will help you identify flora and fauna, advise about medicinal and edible properties of plants and inform you of the surrounding geology.
I also specialise in Archaeological tours including Torrin High Pasture Cave where a 2,500 year old skeleton was recently found, standing stones (one with Pictish engravings) and brochs.
Finally, I am also a keen star gazer and, on dark evenings, can point out constellations and bring them to life with Greek Mythology!
